The global rankings, based on votes from millions of travelers worldwide, were announced by Skytrax at Farnborough International Air Show.
1- Emirates
Dubai-based Emirates has been named the world’s best airline at Skytrax World Airline Awards, wresting the title from Qatar Airways which had to settle for second spot this year.
The win marks the fourth time that Emirates has bagged the award since it launched 14 years ago, and represents a big leap for the airline from last year’s fifth place.
2- Qatar Airways
Qatar Airways was relegated to the number two position, it was awarded three other accolades, including World’s Best Business Class and Best Business Class Lounge.
3- Singapore Airlines
Singapore Airlines is ranked number three, which was also voted the Best Airline in Asia and picked up the award for Best Business Class Airline Seat.
4- Cathay Pacific
Fourth-placed Cathay Pacific Airways also picked up the award for the Best First Class Lounge for “The Pier,” its recently renovated facilities in Hong Kong.
5- ANA All Nippon Airways
Japan’s ANA took the fifth spot. It also bagged awards for the World’s Best Airport Services and Asia’s Best Airline Staff.
6- Etihad Airways
Abu Dhabi’s Etihad secured the sixth position, while Asian airlines dominated the remaining top 10 positions.
Sixth-placed Etihad, which lays on a chef to serve in-flight meals to passengers, also won Best First Class Airline Catering.
7- Turkish Airlines
Turkish Airlines was voted as the seventh best airline in the world. It’s still the best airline in Europe, according to Skytrax.
8- EVA Air
After making a debut in the top 10 airline chart last year, Taiwan’s EVA Air climbed to eighth place this year. It was also named Best Trans-Pacific Airline.
9- Qantas Airways
Australian airline Qantas, which is rarely absent from any top 10 list, moved up one place from 2015 to take ninth position.
10- Lufthansa
German carrier Lufthansa bagged tenth place, climbing two places to re-enter the top 10 list.
