Forget Disneyland, there is a much more adventurous theme park lurking in the depths of this Romanian salt mine.

The buzzing tourist attraction is set 400ft underground and comes complete with ferris wheel and boating lake.

Subterranean Salina Turda, in Turda, Romania, is one of the world’s most amazing hidden wonders. And the underground park attracts around 600,000 visitors a year.

At 137ft deep, 196ft wide and 262ft long, the incredible site includes a ferris wheel, boating lake, bowling alley and amphitheatre.

More than three billion tons of salt has been extracted from the site, leaving a hollow room for the family attraction.

Tudor Bodea, head of tourism services for Salina Turda, said: “The salt mine is a unique tourist attraction, for it’s located deep underground.

“It’s interesting history and the fact that in just two years a common salt mine was totally converted into an underground world brings joy and fascination to many visitors every year.”

The family-friendly park also has a huge children’s playground and a host of popular fairground rides.
